Health Testing - It's important.

Updated: Feb 1, 2020

Have My Puppy’s Parents Been Health Screened?

It is up to you, the buyer, to understand and find out whether or not the parents of your puppy have been screened.

WWL dogs are health tested and bred to do both - hunt, and truly be part of your family.

Being informed that your potential puppy’s parents have been hip and elbow scored is not everything, you also need to make sure that this score was better than average and that additional genetic testing was completed to your satisfaction.

You should only view a litter of Labrador puppies if both the parents have passing scores. and also had the required genetic testing done. Once this is confirmed you should see the parents and inspect their temperament. (Very very important as well) See if the Sire and Dam can be loose without having a shock collar around their neck!

Many people purchase certain Labradors because they are distracted by the hunt test ribbons and thinking all they will do with the dog is hunt... I made the same mistake years ago and ended up with a "health tested" dog that could not be in the house.

Ribbons are fine, but what they might say is that the dog may be so high strung it may not make the best family dog.

* Let's be honest most people only get out and hunt a few times a year.

** Remember, get copies of testing upfront, don't let ribbons replace common sense and health testing. Be realistic about the amount of time you will really hunt.

You don't have to hunt behind an ugly dog.
